Every month, Heaven’s Family helps far more people than we could ever highlight in our bi-monthly newsletter. For that reason, this page contains additional photos and stories of some of the “least of these” among our spiritual family whom we’ve recently been blessed to serve.
A couple months ago I received an email from Kevin, a Christian brother in Uganda, asking for help from the Critical Medical Needs Ministry. He told me about Akumu Janifer, a young 23-year-old woman living in great pain. Akumu slipped from her mother's arms when she was just 6 months old, but her mother never sought medical care for her and she seemed to get better.
Nearly all the children raised their hands. I had just asked them by a show of hands to tell me who suffered frequently from stomach pain or diarrhea. It shouldn't have come as much of a surprise—I was in rural Mukono, Uganda, after all. I was so glad that my visit would change that!
An average 300 babies are abandoned every day in Kenya. Peter and Selpher Matua, of the Baby Life Rescue Center in the city of Mombasa, have been called by the Lord to care for these unclaimed precious babies. The center provides these formerly unwanted children with love, Christian nurture and healthy food while adoptive parents are sought.
"I love it when a plan comes together," were the words of Hannibal, the leader of the "A-Team" on the 1980s TV series of the same name, at the successful conclusion of each episode. No less could be said of our recent "mission"—the Holy Spirit showed up; the government did not. Reasons to rejoice in this season!
Last time I wrote about how most of the children in the orphanages we support have at least one living parent or close relative, but that we lacked the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully reintegrate these children back into their families. God has provided us with a solution, and I'm very excited to tell you about it!
