Last month in India I took part in a wonderful collaboration between Heaven's Family, Hope for Hansen's and Chamberlain College of Nurses—all for the purpose of pouring out God's love and compassion to leprosy victims in 20 colonies spread throughout Hyderabad and New Delhi, India.

Dan and I recently returned from Uganda, where we were privileged once again to serve the Lord by serving the poor. Our first week started in the city of Entebbe, where we hosted a Small Business Training (SBT) conference for a very special group of parents and a new Heaven's Family micro-banker named Victoria Namusisi. One of our special blessings from God is the partners He joins us with in this work—they are truly modern-day heroes of our faith! Victoria is one such woman of God.

After several days of meeting families in villages where Heaven's Family is just beginning to work—and where parents are still sending their children away to institutional child care facilities (aka, orphanages)—it was refreshing to finally visit some villages where Heaven's Family is turning that tide of children through micro-loans. Having first met the people of Maul Zawl and Zatwal, neighboring villages in Northeast Chin State, in 2010, I was excited to see their progress.

You may recall that a few months ago we told you about Deborah Kalulu from Mombasa, Kenya. Deborah was born with spina-bifida, a disability that requires her to use forearm crutches and leg braces to get around. But these mobility issues have not deterred her in the least from her aspirations to become financially independent so that she can support her family.

Mom is very sick and they don't know what happened to Dad—in prison? dead? What they do know is that the rent for their home—an unfinished structure that has a roof supported by pillars, but no walls, plumbing or electricity—costs $43 each month and it's up to the 3 children to earn it.

After arriving in Hyderabad, India, this month, our Heaven's Family team, which included gifted wound care nurse Cindy Ellman, joined forces with a team from Hope for Hansen's and 40+ nurses and doctors from Chamberlain School of Nursing to begin two weeks of ministry to the needs of leprosy patients.

When ISIS advanced into the Palestinian refugee camps within Syria, Bushra, a life-long refugee, had to flee once again to save the lives of her family. They fled to an area of relative peace and safety still inside Syria. They would have preferred to find someplace further from the conflict and turmoil, but like most refugees and internally displace people (IDP), their options and resources are very scarce.

A teacher couldn't hope for a better student. Excited to learn, eager to participate, willing to follow instructions—all those attributes describe Abigail. The only problem is she's just 3 years old, and therefore not old enough to attend school.
