The war in Syria has taken the spotlight on the world's stage the past few years, and the ones who have suffered the most—as in every conflict—are the women and children. The media focuses on bombings and brutality, while mothers and children endure quiet, desperate lives in tents, subsist on limited, poor quality food, find no educational opportunities and feel no hope.
In 2015 our team ministered in Manyani, the most notorious maximum security prison in Kenya. Manyani means "apes." It has a bloody and violent past with reports of great cruelty, torture and death. It is also a place where God is working to redeem men discarded by the world.
Our enemy is advancing around the world. One of his schemes is to make believers think he is stronger than he actually is; no doubt because he senses his approaching demise. Education is a key that unlocks doors for people all over the world. And in developing countries, it can also unlock the door that holds people in the prison of poverty—sometimes for generations to come. In 2015 the Education Ministry worked in countries around the world to provide keys to education that uniquely fit the many challenges faced by the poor.
Like a bomb explosion..." That's the noise that woke Daw Thien Nu, pregnant with her third child, in the middle of the night on August 25th. She had moments to reach safety—somewhere out there in the darkness.
