"But you have no money and you know no one! You must return with us back to Sudan!” Amani’s cousin pleaded. Amani, her cousin and younger brother had been sent to Kenya by their father with a small sum of money to escape the war in Southern Sudan. But their funds ran dry after just a few months, forcing them to return.
Life is harsh and brutal for villagers in the remote regions of rural Malawi. Grinding poverty and hunger are everyday realities for the poor farmers there, especially for in Choiko Village.
Multiple faces squished together and crowded the center of my camera’s viewfinder. Feet clad with shoes purchased by many of you triggered raucous laughter and excitement in the courtyard at Cindi’s Hope in Nairobi, Kenya. Oh, and it was also Pizza Party Day! …A treat we came to provide along with ice cream, seldom experienced by these kids.
With groaning engine and grinding gears we lurched ever higher toward the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains before us. Behind, the valley below was bathed in glorious afternoon sunlight, a view unimpeded by the safety of guard rails—which made for some scary moments!
In July of 2017, I first stepped into my role as director of the Widows & Abandoned Women Ministry. It was a Monday, and my first official day as director.
