Crashing the Wild Man Party

The remote, mountaintop village of Xinhua looked deserted as I and some team members pulled our vehicle to a stop at the edge of town. We soon discovered that almost the entire village had congregated at what might be called their 'fairgrounds' to celebrate a festival called (according to the best translation I can come up with) the 'Welcome the Wild Man Festival,' and we were just in time to join the party!

Rising from the Rubble

The people of Nepal are still reeling from the April 2015 earthquake and its aftershocks. Untold thousands of homes crumbled; and so did the lives of many, including those of leprosy patients who already lived on the teetering, thin edge of existence where mere survival is a challenge.

Living in silence. That's what life is like in North Korea. As the rest of the world advances leaps and bounds in communication technology, that silence is becoming increasingly stark. It remains a bit of a mystery how this 'Hermit Kingdom' can continue to severely limit the flow of information across its nonporous borders.
